“My Journey with Cancer” - Part 1 - With Erin, a patient
Erin lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Erin was suddenly thrust into the medical field when she stood by her mother’s side as her mother passed away from cancer. She, herself, was diagnosed twice with cancer, and then, she stayed by her husband’s side as he went through his own cancer diagnosis.
During this episode, Erin talks about her growth throughout these journeys. She talks about how she learned to experience grief and joy at the same time, like getting married to her husband in the hospital while her mother was at her side with a terminal diagnosis. She also speaks on how much a patient can be affected by the way a healthcare professional approaches treatment/care, like for example, the struggle of needing treatment from a specific doctor but not being able to connect emotionally or mentally with him/her.
I am so thankful that Erin was willing to talk about her experiences, as a patient and family member. There is so much to learn from her story.
