“Loving a baby with a terminal diagnosis - Gideon’s Story”

Lyndsey is a wife and mother to Bennet and Gideon. Bennet is a two year old boy, and Gideon passed away shortly after birth. While Lyndsey was pregnant with Gideon, he was given a terminal diagnosis called acrania. Acrania is a congenital disorder where the baby doesn’t fully develop his skull, and, thus, he would most likely pass away in the womb or shortly after birth.

During this episode, Lyndsey talks about her story. She tells us what it was like to have a baby with a terminal diagnosis, she talks about positive and negative interactions that she had with healthcare workers, ways they cared for her holistically, and much more. Lyndsey had some great comments, but one specifically stuck out to me. She talked about a nurse that she had a connection with, and she told us how the nurse put her hands on Lyndsey’s cheeks and said, “You can do this, mama. You are so strong.”

I am so thankful that Lyndsey was willing to talk about her’s and Gideon’s story. I believe that Gideon is still teaching us today through Lyndsey sharing his life with us. Lyndsey and Jason named their baby boy Gideon Judah because Gideon means ‘warrior’ and Judah means ‘faith’, such a beautiful name.
